Position Description

Class title:       Dispatcher (Transportation Technician)

Characteristics of the Class: Under general supervision of the Operation’s Manager.  This is a safety sensitive position requiring participation in pre-employment and ongoing substance abuse testing and drug and alcohol free workplace.

Desirable Qualifications:

            Training and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalence required. Good Computer knowledge a must. Prior transit (or related field) experience a plus. Maintain a valid Kentucky Driver’s license, Criminal background check without violations.

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

            Knowledge of contemporary office practices and procedures, ability to get along well with the public and other employees, cooperative, good telephone and communication etiquette a must, be a team player.  Ability to train in computer and vehicle procedures.  Knowledge of RTEC’s services and RTEC’s service area, and trainable in transit procedures.  Ability to work flexible hours and as needed.

            Essential requirements for this position is the ability to sit for long periods of time with high concentration levels while working with various production numbers and record keeping. Physical requirements include stretching, bending and stooping to reach files, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds as the standard rule for copying, filing and storing records in an office environment and meet Driver requirements.

Example of Duties:

            Assist the Operations Manager as directed.  Schedule and dispatch transportation services in a safe and efficient manner.  Maintain daily transportation and passenger records. Document driver daily hours. Knowledge of proper paperwork procedures.  Provide daily instruction to drivers.  Distribute supplies to drivers.  Route information to other departments as needed.  Operate vehicles as needed. Monitor AVL data to ensure correctness of all data entered into computer and reports. Monitor speed of vehicles, late pickups and areas for performance and cost efficiency.  Any other assignment provided by the Operations Manager or by the Executive Director.

Starting pay:  $12.50 per hour
